Turn The Radio Off
©Jerry Axson

I’m holding on to something close to me,
God, I hope it does not show,
it’s all about keeping it alive for now –
not so much about what I don’t know,
This city never looked so big to me,
like the buildings could crush me down,
as I make my way through them to you,
…I can’t hear a sound…

I’m driving home alone tonight –
beneath a blanket of moon and stars,
from where I sit it seems incredibly dark,
except the lights from the passing cars,
our favorite song is on the radio,
but I must turn the radio off,
it does me no good to go there for now,
I must be counted in the valley of the lost –
turn the radio off…

Please forgive me for the damage I’ve done,
forgive me for the things I’ve said,
there’s a weight on my shoulders that’s settling down,
and it makes for a heavy head,
I hope to see you in pastel colors,
maybe some summer day,
but the winter’s closing in from the North –
and some of us have lost our way…

about

Jerry Axson Columbia, South Carolina

Writing songs and composing music satisfy my soul and because of this I know exactly what I am designed to do, it’s just that simple. - Jerry Axson ... more
