It’s My Thing To Give ©Jerry Axson Baby keeps tabs - when I am and I am not alone, I'm on a tight leash, I don't roam too far from home, She tells me I'm hers, and that's just how it is, but I say it's my heart - and my thing to give... Baby tells her friends – she keeps herself a good man, when she walks in the room, that’s my queue to stand, She tells them I’m hers, and that’s just how it is, but I say it’s my heart – and my thing to give… Baby keeps score - in the night when we make love, she don't settle for less - than the best of my very best of, She screams out I'm hers, and that's just how it is, but I say it's my heart - and my thing to give... Baby got schooled - now she's learned something new, she can't have it her way all the time, it’s gonna’ take two, for me to be yours, well that's just how it is, it takes two hearts - two hearts to give... For me to be yours – well, that’s just how it is, it takes two hearts – two hearts to give, You can play those games – like it’s nobodies biz, but it’s gonna’ take two – two hearts to give…

The Wrong Man (For Loving You) ©Jerry Axson I cried myself to sleep last night, and no, it’s not the first time, though I tried with all of my might, I could not get you off of my mind, I once was a strong man… now I’m just the wrong man… for loving you… I cannot stand to see myself this way, so much suffering – I’m in so much pain, a thin shadow running from the light of day, a tired old dog standing out in the rain, I once was a strong man… now I’m just the wrong man… for loving you… Maybe tomorrow my ills will wash away – and I can turn this around on a dime, maybe tomorrow will be a better day – I will break these chains that bind me, And I will be a strong man… I will be my own man… and I will walk away from you…

Leave That Radio On ©Jerry Axson You know it's a cold, cold night, and I’m sleeping all alone, I hear a sad, sad song, and it chills me to my bones, in the soft glow of the dial – I’ll just lay here a while - with my radio on... on…on… My woman she done left me, I turned around and she was gone - now I got those deep down lonesome blues, and it feels so very wrong, tell me what else can I do - I’ve cried a river over you - with my radio on... on…on… I dropped a dime on a long distance line, called my family way back home, they told me Son, we will pray for you - and all your sins will be atoned, but until that woman comes back to you – there’s only one thing you can do - leave your radio on... on…on… until that woman comes back to you – there’s only one thing you can do - leave your radio on… on…on… until she finds it in her heart - best just you make a brand new start – leave your radio on… Leave it on… Leave it on…

Tell Me That You Love Me (or Let’s Just Call It Quits) ©Jerry Axson I’ve been standing on the outside facing down the coming storm, dark clouds have gathered and I'm wishing I was never born, carrying this banner though it's ragged and battle worn, So tell me that you love me or let's just call it quits, I want everything you got - not just the little itty - bitty bits, you better tell me that you love me or let's just call it quits... I got money in my pocket and a brand new set of wheels, working day and night in the front room making back door deals, try to keep it honest but for you I'd beg, borrow, or steal, So tell me that you love me or let's just call it quits, I want everything you got - not just the little itty - bitty bits, you better tell me that you love me or let's just call it quits... I've done all I can do, I don't think I can do no more, it’s time to put up or shut up there ain't no walking this floor, my bags are packed and my backside won't hit that door, So tell me that you love me or let's just call it quits, I want everything you got - not just the little itty - bitty bits, you better tell me that you love me or let's just call it quits... you better tell me that you love me or let's just call it quits... you better tell me that you love me or let's just call it quits...

Madine, the Devil, and I ©Jerry Axson Madine, Madine, let down your long hair, let it fall all over me, I’m too far gone to care, I been next to bad for so long now – can’t remember good no more, Madine, Madine, I’m shaken to my core… I been calling out your name, in the middle of the night, calling out your name, in broad daylight, seems I can’t get the devil out of me – because he’s so into you… Madine, Madine, what you’re putting me through… Madine, Madine, tell me dreams can come true, my cards are on the table girl, and I’m betting on you, a little apprehension is good sometimes – if it don’t come back to bite, Madine the Devil and I, deep into the night… Madine, Madine, the Devil and I…

When Lightning Hit The El Camino ©Jerry Axson Heading to the state line, taking all the back roads, shifter in the middle – I’m carrying a heavy load, Desert moon is out – She’s big and mean, I can see her fingertips, brush the pine top greens – Money in the trunk and a fool at the wheel – this dog’s gonna’ run if this dog’s gonna’ steal, spending all my time at the Indian Casino, I swear I wasn’t there when lightning hit the El Camino… My friends disowned me, when the Law took a crack, at the Cherokee nation – who wants their money back, Harvest moon is out - She’s hungry and lean, her greedy fingertips, wiped the cash vaults clean – Money in the trunk and a fool at the wheel – this dog’s gonna’ run if this dog’s gonna’ steal, spent a lot of time at the Indian Casino, I swear I wasn’t there when lightning hit the El Camino… “Happy Camper” trailer park – is just another dump, there’s a storm on the brew, the monies in the trunk, thunderbolts are rolling – cross’ the clouds overhead, I got a war party knocking, and I’m better off dead – Money in the trunk and a tank full of gas – it was the perfect plan – a simple “grab and stash”, when the flash hit the cap they saw it all the way to Reno, but I swear I wasn’t there when lightning hit the El Camino… What a mess… that thing went up like a fireball… all that paper money… done burned to ashes…

about

This is my twentieth recorded project created in my home studio. Just like the equipment and technology in my studio my music has been constantly growing, expanding, and changing with each passing year. I have gone from a practicing musician to an evolving producer and engineer and I can honestly say I don’t know which role I love the most I simply know I’m very fortunate and blessed to have the opportunity to exercise both aspects and to create music.

Saints & Angels of the Electric Blues Church came about through my guitar practice sessions, which I try to have five days a week in the evenings without fail. Although I love Power Pop Rock I have practiced my instrument to blues music nearly my entire life. From Big Joe Turner to Rick Derringer and every kind of electric blues in-between, I have used this type of music as the backdrop to drill my scales and develop my technique such as it is. Along the way I have written a few blues based songs with some Texas swing thrown in for good measure and this is the project I decided to showcase some of that material on.

There is no need to examine these songs or for me to offer any in-depth analysis about them because they are exactly what they are – Fun! I had a lot of fun writing them and even more fun recording them. Most important to me this is the first project I’ve generated where I could stretch out on my primary instrument, the guitar, and allow it to take the lead role in the structure and execution of the music.

I love my guitar - I truly believe it has saved my life more times than I will probably ever know. It has opened the door to song writing for me, which in turn has opened the door to recording and the endless possibilities of that next song. I am grateful to all the players I have had the privilege to know and hear and I am inspired to keep learning and becoming the best I can possibly be.

about

Jerry Axson Columbia, South Carolina

To me simplicity is the root of all great thoughts. The secret thrill for me, the architect, is delivering that thought with unobtrusive complexity. Writing songs and composing music satisfy my soul and because of this I know exactly what I am designed to do, it’s just that simple. - Jerry Axson ... more
