Falling Off The Edge

from If There Is A Heartbeat by Altered Moods

/

about

The scariest thing I ever faced when I was a kid - moving from South Carolina to California at thirteen years old. After a rough entry year at Los Banos Junior High I was eventually taken in by the High School Art crowd where I made lifelong friends and was introduced to a wide world of art and music that changed me forever.
This song pretty much tells that story and although I have a special place in my heart for California, I will always be a southern boy in my heart and in my soul.

lyrics

Falling Off The Edge
©Jerry Axson

Staring out the window,
my reflection in the glass,
driving down this highway,
counting every overpass,
heading out to “Cali” –
I can kiss it all goodbye,
a good place to start over -
all we have to do is try,

I’m falling off the edge…
falling off the edge…
I’m falling off the edge…
of the world…

These streets have a different rhythm,
from anything I’ve ever known,
the suns’ rays fall the same way,
but I just can’t call it home,
I’m thinking about my friends,
they said goodbye – told me they were proud,
I close my eyes and see their faces,
and I say their names out loud,

I’m falling off the edge…
falling off the edge…
I’m falling off the edge…
of the world…

Please forgive me “Cali” –
my heart is in my hands –
I will never be a west coast boy –
just a homesick man…

I’m falling off the edge…
falling off the edge…
I’m falling off the edge…
of the world…2x

Don’t let me go…
no, please don’t let me go…
because I need somebody…
because I want somebody…
I just have to have somebody…
to point me home…
point me home…

about

Jerry Axson Columbia, South Carolina

To me simplicity is the root of all great thoughts. The secret thrill for me, the architect, is delivering that thought with unobtrusive complexity. Writing songs and composing music satisfy my soul and because of this I know exactly what I am designed to do, it’s just that simple. - Jerry Axson ... more
