lyrics

Zachary Cotton Cooper

Zachary Cotton Cooper,
grew up in my hometown,
he came up hard and alone,
his folks were never around,
DUI at 16,
locked up at 22,
his first real taste of anger in there,
they beat him black and blue,

Sometimes it’s hard to remember,
was it August or September?,
the month Zachary Cooper,
well he just - he laid down and died,
you can call it highway robbery,
but I believe when his soul was set free,
not a prayer was offered up,
and every eye in this town went dry…

Zachary Cotton Cooper,
was no one’s confidant,
his eyes were wild with rage,
his soul cried out in want,
the woman he took for his wife,
the children they conceived,
she took her own life for freedom,
the kids chose nothing in which to believe,

Zachary Cotton Cooper…
he died alone…
the only thing I can say -
he was cold to the bone…
Zachary Cotton Cooper…
was no man’s friend…
that aint’ no way to live -
and it’s sure no way to end…

Jerry Axson Columbia, South Carolina

To me simplicity is the root of all great thoughts. The secret thrill for me, the architect, is delivering that thought with unobtrusive complexity. Writing songs and composing music satisfy my soul and because of this I know exactly what I am designed to do, it’s just that simple. - Jerry Axson ... more
