Any Moment I’m With You ©Jerry Axson Another lazy day in my suburban neighborhood was about to slide - right out the door... I met you at the Laundromat you were separating your white from your black “Hanro’s” - against a dull decor... I asked you if you would take me with you?, to wherever it is you think that you might go... It’s never a bore any moment I’m with you - I could think of no better place to be... so many doors that we could fall through, so much for us to touch, taste, and feel... Cigarettes and appointments weekends spent on jet-ski’s at the water park - on cruise control... I’m in your way but you’re on my tail I’ve got a murder to cover to cover my trail before - I lose my soul... I want you to take me with you, to wherever it is you think that you might go...

Lunar Cleft 06:22
Lunar Cleft ©Jerry Axson Can’t sleep at all tonight - I’ve got a lot on my mind, bending light across the spectrum, of space, matter, and time... my head is in these books - but my heart’s in the spirit realm, you’re the captain of this ship, I’m the fool at the gail torn helm... On an endless flight, in this silver spoon, against a black backdrop, across the face of a lonely moon, He’ll give us a wink, and then we’re on our way, to the center of the universe, where all color fades to gray... In ancient days they painted - in caves and on flat rock, images of stars and suns, and words they could not talk... and I know you were there - looking down with grace and love, as heavy eyes lifted up, to the great expanse above...

Over L.A. Tonight ©Jerry Axson Sweet little sugar with a heart of pewter, keeps her hands clean - and the dogs lean, it’s some messed up stuff if you know what I mean, she’s on a mission of indecision, get her body waxed - or her pleasures taxed, such a wicked, wicked, wicked scene... Nobody ever showed her how to set it free... it didn’t take that much to make a fool out of me... Somewhere out in L.A. tonight - baby tucks herself in tight, she doesn’t have to sleep alone, and this chills me to the bone, to think of her with another man - breaks my heart by her command, I’m so messed up I can’t fly right, somewhere over L.A. tonight... Little miss user, nicotine abuser, keeps her thighs locked - and her heart boxed, saving it up for some rainy day, closet pretenders paying hard line defenders, in the back room - looks like I spoke too soon, am I the only one that’s got something to say??? Nobody ever showed her how to set it free... it didn’t take that much to make a fool out of me...
4.
(It Goes) Straight Through ©Jerry Axson There's a line on the wall, it goes straight through, straight through to me and straight through to you...straight through... There's a crack in the wall, right near the point, slips under pressure - weakens the joint...weakens the joint... No I...don't feel the same way about you, I can see the line and I know that it goes straight through, No I...don't feel the same way same about you, I can see the line and I know that it goes straight through... There's a badge on my chest, the weight breaks my back, dragging me down - down to the ground...down to the ground... We earn it for love, we bear it in pain, some scream out loud - and some not a sound...don't make a sound...
5.
Peculia Julia ©Jerry Axson Well I heard it on the radio, sounds just right, talk about a feeling, I'm coming over tonight, Gonna' race my engine up and down your road, ease it into high - slam it into low - Oh yeah, Oh yeah... Peculia Julia do you know who you love, who ya' love... Peculia Julia do you know who you love who ya' love... I'm having dangerous feelings, and wicked little thoughts, went down to the drugstore, just look at - look at - look at what I bought, Standing in line just to get a shot at you, aint' my idea of fun - I got better things to do - to do,do,do... Peculia Julia do you know who you love, who ya' love... Peculia Julia do you know who you love who ya' love...
6.
Boy With The X-Ray Vision ©Jerry Axson Boy with the X-Ray vision- cut a hole right through your heart, Boy with the X-Ray vision- don't know when to stop or start, Maybe you think that his power is strange, because there's nothing he can't see, you can run to the end of the world, there is no place that he won't be... I want to be just like him, Oh, Oh, Oh, I want to cut that wall in two, I want to stop those evil men, before they do the things that they love to do, Got to be just like him... The boy with the X-ray vision... Boy with the X-Ray vision- got a key to your dark soul, Boy with the X-Ray vision- can tell stories you don't want told, In the night when the lights go out, not a heart is safe for miles, they can lie about how they feel, he just penetrates their smiles, Boy with the X-Ray vision... cut a hole right through your heart... Boy with the X-Ray vision... don’t know when to stop or start... Boy with the X-Ray vision... got a key to your dark soul... Boy with the X-Ray vision... can tell stories you don’t want told...
7.
Guess I Always Will ©Jerry Axson In the middle - unprotected by the dark, we lay quiet - count each beat of our hearts, you’ve betrayed me - and I’ve removed myself from you, flesh is flesh now - there’s nothing I can do to help you - Find your answers - dangerous answers - Find your answers - dangerous answers - Up the mountain and - down the hill, you asked me to - I love you, guess I always will... On the outside - unprotected by the light, there’s a prayer - there’s a chance that we might, work together - take the clay in artist hands, time for change - getting through what we don’t understand, Find a safe place - help to save face - find a safe place - help to save face -
8.
Better Take Me Dancing ©Jerry Axson You won’t take me dancing with you, and your friends think I’m a jerk, I call home and there’s no answer - all I do is sweat and work, there’s no shadows’ in our bedroom, and the bed is hard and cold, I think the neighbors are talking, what’s that story being told? So you’d better take me dancing - and we’d better go tonight, you know drinking leads to talking - that always ends up in a good fight, so you’d better take me dancing - better take me dancing - better take me dancing - take me dancing tonight... We don’t talk about affection. we just move further away, in our own different directions, like there’s nothing left to say, so I’m packing up my suitcase, all the whips and chains, you won’t take me dancing with you, and it’s driving me insane,
9.
2 Shades Of Blue ©Jerry Axson There’s 2 shades of blue, my life with and without you, and I’ve come to realize, living in between ain't no big prize, so why do I stay?, I should just get up and walk away, maybe leave this town, you and your friends keep dragging me down - I’d move a mountain of salt, to see one tear in your eye... but you just turn away, because you can’t face this lie...Oh, my, my, my... So where do I start?, how do you cover a naked heart?, you can wear it on your sleeve, parade it around if that’s what you believe, while I’m crying up mine, alligator tears fall in time, to a sad and lonely tune, like Brian said - “when she walks in the room...” I’d move a mountain of salt, to see one tear in your eye... but you just turn away, because you can’t face this lie...Oh, my, my, my... There’s 2 kinds of pain, one explodes in passion - one dies in shame, and they both leave a scar, to remind you of how near and how far - we all have to go, in the flesh or in the know, makes no difference in Love, it makes no difference to Love...
10.
Broken Parts 04:17
Broken Parts ©Jerry Axson You call me - a little too little too late, I’ve got time but time won’t wait, it just whistles on down the line, so I cry - and the tears run warm and free, but have you ever let them fall for me?, did you ever cross over that line?, And all the broken parts, fall down, down, down, from my hands to the floor, lay in pieces on the ground, and all the broken parts, in my eyes are all the same, you can pick them up today, but tomorrow they’ll fall again... I call you - the line rings on and on, if it was here it’s long since gone, and the walls go up so high, you don’t know - the things I’ve had to do, to steal a little bit of love from you, and it’s breaking my heart inside
11.
Faster 02:59
Faster ©Jerry Axson When I was a little boy I wanted to go faster - my Mother said it was just no good I was heading for disaster, all around me the world did spin in ever slower motion, while all the while I felt propelled by a sonic boom explosion - I’m headed for the inevitable... in the meantime I’m gonna’ run like hell... Faster bikes, faster cars, faster girls, faster guitars - faster planes, faster jets, drop the peddle to the metal and go - you bet... Father pulled me aside one day and said your Mother does not know - life has a hard time catching up the faster that you go, so if your wheels spin round’ and ‘round and you have yourself a notion, don’t be afraid to lean in a bit and taste that forward motion - I’m headed for the inevitable... in the meantime I’m gonna’ run like hell...
12.
Let’s Take A Ride (In My Car) ©Jerry Axson Let’s take a ride - in my car, I don’t know where, and I don’t care how far, they ain't’ never gonna’ catch us - long as we stay in my car... You say your name - is sweet Lucille, well, I’m not sure - but that sounds like a good deal, We don’t have to fall in love or nothin’ - just come along with me in my car... I’m just another stupid boy getting by... but I’m sure glad I found you tonight...Yeah, well alright... Let’s take a ride - into the night, you can be my blanket of stars, and wrap me up tight, I won’t make no bones about it - this is how I feel in my car...

about

This was the second in a series of "Pop Record: Confidential" themed projects I did. I pretty much wrote the songs as I built the project, each one seemed to follow the next. I was very much into production value on this project, I wanted each song to be carefully constructed and each instrument and it's performance to be as near perfect as possible. I experimented with a lot of soundscapes and sounds, especially using the Yamaha MOTIF, it was a lot of fun. "Any Moment I'm With You" was the first song I wrote and it was based on a dream I had about a murder mystery involving Perry Mason, if you listen you will hear me shout out his phone number during the lead. "Lunar Cleft" was inspired by my Son who had just started college and was having to balance his book studies with his theological beliefs, I added the nursery rhyme portion to temper the deep subject matter with a child-like simplistic thought. "Over LA Tonight" simply put was an exercise in perfection for both the pop structure and the mix down - I wanted it to be as near perfectly executed as I was capable of doing. "Straight Through" was a song I wrote some years before, I could hear the song in my head completely finished with all parts but at the time of writing it I did not have the means to record what I heard, it was unfinished business. “Peculia Julia”, “Boy With The X-ray Vision”, “Guess I Always Will”, and “Better Take Me Dancing” were songs I had written and performed years before in Altered Moods. They were odd songs that I always liked and wanted to take this opportunity to record them with the full treatment. "2 Shades Of Blue" was one of those songs that just wrote itself and all I could do was try to get out of the way. I really like the flow and the mood of the song, it was an easy write and a joy to structure and record. “Broken Parts” was another older Altered Mood song revisited. “Faster” and “Let’s Take A Ride (In My Car)” closed the project out – written to go together both in storyline and musical structure it was a nice close to this twelve song project.

about

Jerry Axson Columbia, South Carolina

To me simplicity is the root of all great thoughts. The secret thrill for me, the architect, is delivering that thought with unobtrusive complexity. Writing songs and composing music satisfy my soul and because of this I know exactly what I am designed to do, it’s just that simple. - Jerry Axson ... more
